Twenty-four-year-old Kael lives an ordinary life in a modern city where supernatural abilities are believed to be nothing more than myth. But hidden among humanity are Ascendants—people capable of manipulating Aether, an ancient supernatural energy. The secret Order of Veyra hunts Ascendants and harvests their Aether to resurrect the Hollow King, an entity that nearly destroyed the world centuries ago. When Kael instinctively releases an impossible amount of Aether while protecting someone from an attack, the hidden world realizes that the bloodline of the most powerful Ascendant in history has returned.
