Zachariah Provod was a normal man who rallied groups to overthrow his corrupt government and became Emperor after defeating his enemies. Frustrated by slow reform, he began executing people he judged guilty, then conquered the planet and expanded into space. An evil magic gave him unnatural powers and warped his mind until he believed everyone was corrupt and deserved death. Now he commands thousands of interstellar ships, each carrying a thousand soldiers. During a battle on a distant planet, he orders billions of innocents killed, claiming the world is beyond saving. A lone captain in his service must find others who believe the Emperor must be stopped, while avoiding betrayal, false allies, and execution for treason.
