Night Shift at a Convenience Store

Haru Sato, 22, took the graveyard shift at 4マート: a small, spotless convenience store on a quiet corner, because he wanted the simplest job in Japan: scan items, mop floors, watch the clock. What nobody told him is that the store sits on a thin place between worlds, and after dark its regulars aren’t exactly human. A polite kappa pays in exact change, a gentle ghost drifts the aisles without ever triggering the door chime, a teal slime oozes in under the back-room door, a hot-headed demon kicks the front one open, and a tiny imp treats the snack aisle like a battlefield. Haru serves them all with the dead-eyed patience of a man who is paid minimum wage either way, but as the nights roll on, the weirdest customers in Japan start to feel like the closest thing he has to a family, and the store starts to feel like something far bigger than a konbini.
