In 1969, a British secret agent hunts the elusive head of a global criminal organization from the casinos and beaches of Portugal to a secret research institute high in the Swiss Alps. There, the mastermind prepares a biological weapon capable of devastating the world's agriculture. The mission changes when the agent meets the fiercely independent daughter of a powerful European crime boss. Their dangerous alliance becomes the one relationship that makes this famously detached man consider a life beyond the service. Their paths converge at a mountaintop stronghold, where espionage, betrayal, brutal close-quarters action, alpine chases, and a race against biological catastrophe become painfully personal. Beneath the stylish late-1960s spy thriller is the story of a man who discovers something worth leaving the life for, just as that life refuses to let him go.
