After scientists discover that people who die unnaturally can choose one temporary week of life, the dead may return without anyone knowing they died. They must identify who caused their death, whether by accident or murder, before the week ends. The person responsible does not know they caused the death during the activation of temporary life. If the returned person correctly identifies them, they regain their life while the responsible person dies by the same method. Each person gets only one accusation. If they choose incorrectly or run out of time, their soul suffers that death over and over instead of finding peaceful rest, and their original death becomes real to the living world. Some return for loved ones, some for justice, some to exploit the week, and some give up and fade away, knowing every second chance is temporary.
