The story follows Kayla, an ordinary-looking EMT with loose curls, practical clothes, a barking dog, and a desperate need for quiet. Beneath her exhausted routine are elite combat instincts and extraordinary abilities: healing, teleportation to places she can see, telekinetic force, and the power to animate inanimate things. Her anxious younger sister Samantha, a daycare teacher with strong medical knowledge and imperfect artistic ambitions, can soothe souls, rewrite memories, see a person's past and future, manifest hopes, reverse time, and bend luck. Together they face a violent world of magic, betrayal, monsters, and collapsing lives while trying to protect an ordinary family life. After awakening from suspended animation on a beach, the sisters compare visions of a chaotic supernatural world, test their abilities, and learn that magic is what someone can manipulate while power is the strength behind it. They agree to hide what they can and pursue calm lives, but Kayla's late train, a stairwell full of thugs, and one long sigh are enough to turn her day into a bloodbath. When a child's drone witnesses her, she must silence both the recording and the witness before her quiet life collapses.
