Every ten years, a gifted singer is sent to the ancient sanctuary of Asha, the Crimson Queen, a fearsome dragon whose restless blood threatens to awaken a power capable of shaking the world. The singers are taught an ancient Latin hymn to soothe her. None are meant to awaken her. Until one man sings. For the first time in centuries, Asha opens her golden eyes and takes human form. Captivated by the young singer’s extraordinary voice, she allows him into her lonely world and discovers a feeling she believed herself incapable of experiencing: love. But their romance hides a terrible secret. Livia, a beautiful white dragon who disguises her cruelty beneath an appearance of divine purity, has her own designs for the Crimson Queen. The singer carries a weapon capable of piercing Asha’s scales, and his love will become the instrument of her greatest heartbreak. When love turns to betrayal, Asha’s grief unleashes a devastating fury that will forever change her relationship with humanity. Centuries later, the echoes of that fateful song remain. Some songs soothe a dragon. Some awaken love. And some become the soundtrack to a betrayal that never truly dies.
