Luck is a Dumb stat

Cass, a 19-year-old African American young man, is transported to a fantasy world after losing his last parent. His love of anime and video games helps him understand levels, stats, monsters, quests, and magic. His extraordinarily high Luck stat makes him immune to poisons, venoms, diseases, and debilitating status effects, but he can still be injured, outsmarted, and overwhelmed. He arrives in a remote village bordering a dangerous poisonous swamp, befriends Elias Thornwick, an elderly village alchemist who takes him in, and learns potion-making. Cass joins the village Adventurers' Guild to earn money, gain levels, collect rare ingredients, and develop whatever skills survival forces him to learn. The village is secretly controlled by a corrupt church that exploits its people and kidnaps threats, abandoning them in the deadly fog. When Elias protects Cass and is taken into the fog, Cass follows to save him, uncovering the church's secrets and reaching Nami, an ancient Poison Dragon Serpent who becomes his alchemy mentor and eventual love interest.
