The Quiet After

In 2045, former black-ops soldier Marcus Howard Hayes lives in isolation outside Briar Creek, Texas, five years after surviving the destruction of Fort Platke, Nevada, an attack that killed his unit and ended his military career. Haunted by survivor’s guilt and unanswered questions, Marcus has built a controlled civilian life far from the town. That changes when he rescues Savannah Moore, a local schoolteacher attacked while jogging near his property. Their connection grows through quiet conversations, shared meals, practical kindness, and the difficult work of respecting boundaries while living with trauma. As Marcus begins to accept a future and a community, the organization behind Fort Platke returns, forcing him to confront what happened, why he survived, and how much of the truth he can share. The series balances gradual romance, grounded suspense, military thriller tension, and everyday small-town life. Savannah remains an active, independent partner, while Marcus learns that honoring the dead can coexist with loving the living.
