In a world where magic and modern technology coexist, the village of Kurohana has worshipped the ancient Serpent God, Veyran Noctis, for centuries. To honor him, the villagers offer food, treasures, magical artifacts and occasionally human sacrifices. One day, several villagers are brought to Veyran's shrine as sacrifices. Veyran accepts them. However, instead of killing them immediately, Veyran becomes fascinated by the humans and their strange modern world. He has watched humanity for centuries, but cars, smartphones, computers, firearms, and magical technology are completely foreign to him. The villagers begin teaching Veyran about modern technology while he teaches them about ancient magic, gods, monsters, and forgotten civilizations. But Veyran soon discovers that modern technology contains traces of ancient divine energy. Something from his forgotten past has returned and the sacrificed humans may be the only ones who can help him understand the modern age.
